Investing in Decent Work: Occupational Health and Safety

After focusing on the issue of forced labour, the second round of publications in the CWC’s Investing in Decent Work briefing paper series looks at occupational health and safety (OHS). Briefing paper #3 urges greater shareholder collaboration to push companies towards ensuring robust health and safety practices.

Investor Risks:

Negligent health and safety cultures not only negatively impact workers and society, but can also harm the long-term viability of companies and pose significant financial, reputational, regulatory and legal risks for investors. Poor corporate management of OHS can threaten shareholder value, damage public perception of the company or brand, incur penalties and fines that affect the company’s bottom line and lead to costly legal action on behalf of employees and their families.
